Song of the Month (March 2026)

Our song of the month for March is Christ Arose, also known as Up from the Grave He Arose and Low in the Grave He Lay. This hymn was composed by Robert Lowry in 1874 and captures the joy that the Resurrection brings. The song quickly became popular in his own day and is still a favorite Easter hymn today. You can learn more about Robert Lowry and his story in this article: The Story of Robert Lowry

About the Arrangement

When it came to arranging this particular hymn, I wanted to express the power and joy of the subject: the Resurrection of the Savior. In the lyrics, there is a type of back-and-forth where the verses depict almost a sadness or solemness while the chorus almost shouts in contrast, "Christ arose!" I wanted the sound of the music to reflect these themes, so I tried to arrange the chorus to have an explosive sound at the beginning and to sound triumphant, as Christ is the victor over sin and death.

Sheet Music & Background Track

The advanced sheet music for Christ Arose can be found on our website here: Christ Arose - Digital Sheet Music. This piece can be played with or without a background track (see below for a video example without the track). I created the background track to give the song extra power, lift, and drama, so if you are looking for an extra touch to add to an Easter Sunday special, this could be a great addition. You can find the background track at this link or in the sheet music description.

For the month of March, if you purchase the individual digital sheet music for Christ Arose, the background track will be added to your cart for FREE!  All you have to do is add the sheet music to your cart and the background track will be automatically added. This special expires at midnight on March 31st, 2026.
