The first candle lit for the Advent season is The Prophet's Candle, which reminds us of hope. Namely, the hope those who lived before the incarnation of Christ had looking forward to and awaiting His coming, longing for the day when the Messiah would redeem His people. Old Testament prophets foretold Christ's coming, and Israel longed for the day when these promises would be fulfilled. Today, we look back on Jesus' birth and redemption of mankind as the fulfillment of hundreds of prophecies fulfilled, and the hope we have of His future return.
"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel." -Isaiah 7:14 NASB1995
