Piano Solo Music for Kids: Hymns & Sunday School Songs

If you're a parent/teacher looking for Christian music for children to either play on the piano or listen to, this article is for you! Here, I am going to share the Sunday school songs and hymns we have available for kids as sheet music and/or recordings. If you're looking for music you can listen to rather than for sheet music, simply scroll down to the end of this article!

Easy, Free Piano Sheet Music for Kids

Early Elementary Student/Teacher (or Parent/Child or Sibling) Duets

These duets are designed for beginner students who are starting to learn more notes on the staff. The teacher part can be played by the teacher, a parent, or a sibling who can play roughly intermediate to late intermediate level piano.

Elementary Sheet Music

In our elementary category, we have a few different types of sheet music, and all of them are free! First, we have our Elementary Hymns for Sight-reading. This series includes 18 free, single-note hymns and Christmas carols are perfect for kids to practice their sight-reading skills. They also have lyrics displayed so that children can recognize the hymn, learn its lyrics, and even sing along (or have a sibling sing along) as they play.

We also have several fun elementary duets of Sunday school songs, hymns, and Christmas carols. These duets are ideal for a teacher, parent, or older sibling to play with a beginner piano student.

If you or your child are looking for a more full sounding solo arrangement rather than a practice sheet or duet, we now also offer elementary solos! I have added the lyrics to these pieces as well so that the player can learn each song's lyrics alongside the melody. The songs we currently have available are:

Late Elementary Piano Solo Hymns

In our late elementary piano solo sheet music collection, we have hymns for all seasons available for free. I have designed these pieces to be simple and yet still have a full sound. This allows children, whether younger or older, to enjoy playing a song that is still easy but sounds more advanced. We still update this page with new pieces, so if your child enjoys these, you can always check back here for new ones (or follow us on Facebook or join our email list to be notified when these new pieces become available)!

Fun Tip: Especially with younger students, it can be quite helpful to have them keep track of the time they spend practicing each week using a practice chart. Here are several charts that you can feel free to use at home or in your own teaching studio!

Consistent practice is actually one of our 5 Tips for Better Piano Practice. This FREE PDF booklet was designed to help pianists learn how to get the most of their practice and encourage them to work hard and develop healthy habits early on. You can get the booklet for FREE on our store.

Sheet Music for More Advanced Piano Students

If you have a child who needs more of a challenge for piano solos, there are many downloadable pieces available on our store across the levels of early intermediate, intermediate, late intermediate, early advanced, and advanced. If your child prefers having some more contemporary music to play, we offer many advanced arrangements of modern hymns and Getty Music songs. You can also find piano duets for older students to play with their teacher, parents, friends, or siblings!

Fun Tip: If your child is interested in using digital sheet music on a tablet or iPad rather than printing it off, you can find instructions on how to use a couple different music reader app in our step-by-step tutorial article, "How Do I Get Sheet Music onto My iPad or Android Tablet?". Doing this also allows you to link background tracks (which we offer for some of our pieces) to the sheet music. You can learn more about this in our article, "How to Link a Background Track to Sheet Music in forScore".

A lot of the resources I've mentioned so far have been digital, but if you prefer physical sheet music books over digital music, we have many print intermediate, late intermediate, and advanced books available on our music books page. Our Simply Church Hymns series is a great intermediate level series to start with!

Extra Resources for Young Pianists

I have written a couple of FREE booklets to help your child learn good practice habits (as we mentioned above) and explore the world of arranging. The latter is best for those students that already have a good basic working knowledge of piano theory, so it is better for more advanced students looking to delve more into the world of creating their own music.

I also post new articles frequently to help pianists learn and explore new ideas. For example, we have an article on posture, best use of the metronome, how often and how long to practice, becoming efficient at scales and arpeggios, how to play from a hymnal or chord chart, etc.

If you're looking to enhance your child's playing/practicing experience, try taking a look at our list of gift ideas posted last year during the Christmas season: Gift Ideas for Pianists

Piano Background Music for Kids

When it's time to settle down the kids or when you are in the car, music can help make a huge difference! If you want to play some background music around the house, in the car, during homeschool, etc., here are some piano solo recordings we offer.

Conclusion

I hope this article has been helpful to you!
